Seafood Savvy promotes the use of local, sustainable seafood by restaurants, markets, retailers, wholesalers and distributors along the Gulf coast of Florida. Our goal is to help ensure that we have fish for the future by educating consumers, chefs, restaurant and market owners about Gulf-friendly seafood, and encouraging consumers to dine at our partner restaurants or purchase seafood at our partner markets and distributors.
We believe that we can lessen the human impact on the oceans by making wise seafood choices and encouraging improvement of fishing and fish-farming methods. Seafood Savvy works closely with Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program to help raise consumer awareness through pocket guides, website, mobile applications and outreach efforts. Seafood Watch recommendations are science-based, peer reviewed, and use ecosystem-based criteria. Seafood Savvy is an initiative of START, a Florida non-profit organization dedicated to preserving our coastal waters.
